ST. LOUIS, MO (September 27th, 2017) – The NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park, had the fastest qualifying field in Pro Mod history. Three PLR Hemi-powered teams made it into the show and one added to their Wally collection.In a tough qualifying field with a 5.804 bump spot, Sidnei Frigo ran an impressive 5.781 at 255 mph pass to take the number 9 position, Troy Coughlin took the number 12 spot with a 5.788 at 254 mph hit, Shane Molinari qualified fourteenth with a 5.80-second elapsed time, and Michael Biehle just missed the bump with a 5.81-second blast.
Going into the first round of eliminations, Coughlin outran Pro Mod veteran “Trickie” Rickie Smith going 5.75 at 257 mph to Smith’s 5.80. Frigo capped off a 5.77 at 255 mph holeshot win against Chuck Little and moved on to round two. Unfortunately, Molinari wasn’t able to make the call.
Frigo had a good weekend with his white PLR Hemi-powered C7 Corvette, tuned by Brandon Stroud, but just didn’t have enough in the second round of eliminations against Peter Farber. Frigo had the starting line advantage but it was only enough to hold the lead to the 1000-feet mark until Farber caught up and took the win. Coughlin was lined up against Steven Whiteley, and the Steve Petty-tuned yellow Corvette was ready for the call. Coughlin’s 0.027-second light pushed him ahead at the start and put him in the position he needed to hold down the win with a holeshot, and Coughlin moved on to the semi-finals against Pete Farber.
In round three, Coughlin and Farber had a really close race ,Coughlin jumped out to the front with a quick 0.038-second reaction time and took the victory with a 5.80 at 255 mph trip.
With Coughlin looking to take his second win of the year, he had a tough match up with Khalid Al Balooshi and his nitrous-powered machine in the finals. Petty put in the tune up, and down went Coughlin with a 0.024 reaction time. Coughlin ended up taking the win with a 5.79-second passover Balooshi’s 5.85-second effort. The race earned Coughlin his second win of this season and pushed him to the top of the leader board in the NHRA Pro Mod championship points run.

With only one NHRA Pro Mod race left at the end of the month in Las Vegas, Nevada, Coughlin is holding down the points lead and hoping to bring home another championship with his Pro Line-powered Hemi.
